Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-Rlp-2021-LPTPPG
Contract period: 01.01.2021
- 31.12.2023
Budget: 640,000 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: Farming practice/activity, plant production and horticulture, land cover type, fertilisation, soil, water, biodiversity, climate change
The AKWA Project aims to evaluate the effectiveness of waterfriendly crop rotation and management measures with regard to groundwater protection in the study area. The transferability of the measures to other regions in Rhineland-Palatine will be assessed, resulting in recommendations for regions with high groundwater nitrate concentrations. An interdisciplinary team of agronomists and hydrogeologists will record soil properties that influence nitrate leaching. The impact of water-friendly cultivation methods on biodiversity will be monitored. The consequences of water-friendly cultivation for the profitability of arable farming will be documented, and recommendations for the determining the level of compensation for measure implementation will be elaborated.
