Purpose of research: Basic research
Studies on the inhibition phenomenon between Salmonella strains of different serovars in vitro using nutrient broth cultures and in vivo in young chickens will be carried out. The ability of Salmonella organisms to inhibit the intestinal colonisation of other Salmonella strains shall be exploited to develop potential vaccine candidates against Salmonella infection in broilers. As important basis for these studies Salmonella serovars and strains will be identified and characterised which show a broad range inhibition potential beyond the serovar level under in vivo and in vitro conditions.
