Undergrowth management without herbicides in steep slope viticulture
Project
Project code: JKI-OW-08-1182
Contract period: 01.01.2013
- 31.12.2015
Purpose of research: Applied research
The main objective of this project is the setup of sustainable strategies for weed control underneath the vine rows in vineyards on steep slopes. Reliable weed management solutions under these conditions could help to clear a major obstacle for the implementation of organic viticulture on steep slopes and, on the other hand, would allow a reduction of herbicide application in integrated management. Practical solutions will be developed following a combination of three approaches: ground cover with gravel, green cover using cover crops with a low rate of water consumption, and the adaptation of tillage systems to a crawler based mechanization system.
