Collaborative project: Identification of lentil (Lens culinaris) genotypes for sustainable cropping systems in temperate climates (LinSel)
Project
Project code: 2815EPS078
Contract period: 15.02.2019
- 28.02.2022
Budget: 33,662 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: crop production, seed and planting material, crop production, lentils, other legumes, mixed cultivation, selection, sustainability
The overarching goal of 'LinSel” is to provide lentil genotypes for farmers that are adjusted to the growing conditions in Central Europe to increase the yield, yield stability and product quality of the legume lentil (Lens culinaris L.). In the scope of the project genotypes are identified, selected, improved, and tested in order to obtain the best adaption for cultivation in German farming systems. As a consequence, lentils can be reintroduce as a 'new” traditional crop. Within our project we strive to expand lentil cultivation beyond the currently used locations. The results of this project aim at adding lentils to the product-portfolio of plant breeders, farmers, and consumers. The project is coordinated by the ZÖLUH (Center for Farming University of Hohenheim). Project partners are the Institute of Crop Science at the University of Hohenheim with the working groups of Agronomy (UHO1) and Quality of Plant Products (UHO2), the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research, Department of Genebank, Research Group Resources Genetics and Reproduction (IPK), the Keyserlink-Institute (KEY), and the Georg-August-University-Göttingen, Section of Genetic Resources and Organic Plant Breeding (UGÖ).
