RYE-BARLEY-DIVERSITY - Bridging genomics and genetic diversity: Association between gene polymorphism and trait variation in cereals (Part 3)
Project
Project code: 0313098C
Contract period: 01.08.2004
- 31.07.2006
Budget: 98,957 Euro
Purpose of research: Basic research
To gain a further understanding of genes involved in determining grain quality and flowering time in cereal species, we propose to undertake association studies between gene polymorphism and the variation of these traits. Five key candidate genes will be considered for each trait. Comparative sequencing will be achieved on a representative set of inbred lines of maize, sorghum, rice, wheat, barley and rye in order to discover SNP for each species. This step will be followed by high throughput genotyping of larger populations on a French and a German genotyping platform. Statistical methods will be developed to investigate linkage disequilibrium and determine polymorphisms associated with trait variation.
