Because of the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry these substances end up in the manure. This manure is used for the fertilisation of field crops for human and animal consumption. The tranfer of antibiotics from soil to crop plants has already been proven by several investigations.
The aim of this project is the devopment of a method for the analysis of antibiotics in matrices of plant origin. Futhermore a variety of cereals and vegetable available on the market should be analysed for antibiotic residues by this method in order to get a first overview about the content of antibiotics in food of plant origin and to draw conclusions about the additional antibiotic uptake by consumers from this food. Firstly the analyses are focused on local crop plants known to be fertilised by manure (e.g. potatoes, corn). The developed method should be able to analyse as many antibiotics of different groups (tetracyclines, quinolones, pleuromutilines, makrolides, lincosamides and sulfonamides) as possible in the crops of interest.
