Implementation of a sequentially coupled cascade use of German ryegrass (KaNu-Gras)
Project
Project code: JKI-PB-08-1290
Contract period: 01.07.2020
- 30.06.2023
Purpose of research: Applied research
The aim of this project is to improve the raw material efficiency and added value of grassland areas with German ryegrass (Lolium perenne) in a variety-specific and location-specific manner by means of an adapted cutting regime and subsequent material and energy cascade utilization. To this end, both yield and constituents are to be optimized for different utilization possibilities.
An important component of the project includes the investigation of the value chain of different varieties of Lolium perenne along a biorefinery chain and the development of new material utilization from fractionation (e.g. monosaccharides). The resulting residues are also examined for their potential for energetic or alternative utilization.
The results of the investigations will be used to ultimately provide the farmer with a model-based prediction tool to control the quality parameters and ingredients of the grassland growth for subsequent processing and to show possible uses for different crop qualities. In addition, knowledge will be gained for future grass breeding of important plant characteristics and ingredients for material and energetic utilization.
