Production processes

Project code: 2814701311
Contract period: 01.03.2013 - 29.02.2016
Budget: 327,998 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

The company Bio-Protect GmbH worked out the basics for the development of biotechnological preparations, which will combat pathogens out of the oomycetes,  in the research project „biotechoomy“ (FKZ2814701311) form March 2013 to February 2016. Production procedures were developed for two yeast strains and 6 bacterial strains and the influence of the composition of the growth media, the downstream processing and the formulation on the efficacy against Phytophthora infestans was tested in a tomato leaf disc assay. Optimized and formulated test products were tested for storage stability and efficacy against Peronospora viticola on potted grape vines and Pseudoperonospora cubensis on potted cucumbers in climatic chambers. Different production batches of the bacterial strain JKI-BI-6432 and the yeast strain 2H13 revealed reproducible efficacies. 2H13 clearly increased the efficacies of reduced copper doses without showing an efficacy of its own. Therefore, this strain correspond to the definition of an additive to plant protection agents. Bio-Protect will push on the scale-up of the production procedure for 2H13 and will apply for registration as an additive.
