Stress resistance and -adaptation of trout from intensive and extensive management under defined management conditions (StreFo)

Project

Project code: 2813NA002
Contract period: 01.11.2014 - 30.11.2018
Budget: 349,700 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

The aim is to examine trout of various sizes from different intensive and extensive husbandry for their best adaptability and stress resistance in relation to environmental management conditions regulated by law. The changed approach of the ecological conditions of fish husbandry can lead to stress with all its impacts on fish health in non-adapted trout. With the expiry of the transitional period of the EU regulation in 2015, it is no longer allowed to bring non-organically produced animals in an operation and therefore trout is required, which has an adaption to stress. Based on the available expertise therefore statistically evaluated parameters should be established to verify the 'welfare' status of the trout in relation to stress in housing systems and to investigate the coherence of chronic stress, immunosuppression, keeping and feeding. Thus, the Faculty of Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences, CAU with the GMA and the Institute for Fisheries of the Bavarian State Research Center for Agriculture investigate in a joint project the tress resistance and adaptation of trout from intensive and extensive husbandry under defined environmental conditions, with special consideration to organic production practices.
