Urban Green 2021 - trial of an extended assortment of tree species under changing climate conditions (Urban Green 2021)
Project
Project code: KL/14/02
Contract period: 01.07.2014
- 31.08.2017
Budget: 242,738 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: climate change, urban climate-resilient tree species, urban tree testing, regional tree species recommendation lists, tree species diversification
Extension of the climate change project "Urban Green 2021" of the Bavarian State Institute of Horticulture and Viticulture by another 10 tree species that are tested of their stress tolerance and climate resilience to expand the presently scarce repertoire of urban tree species. The planting took place in the previous Bavarian partner cities. The additional 190 trees are also checked twice a year on frost and drought damage, crown vitality, pests and diseases. Shoot and girth development are measured each autumn. Additionally, analyses of the tree pit substrate and leaves are taken in midsummer to assess the nutrient status of some of these tree species.
