Description

The Geosciences at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen have a long-standing tradition, starting with Friedrich August Quenstedt who introduced Mineralogy and Geosciences to the University in 1837. This turned Geosciences to a unique subject in the Kingdom of Württemberg and laid the foundations for an excellent Geological Museum that still enjoys wide popularity nowadays. Ever since, Geosciences have marked a growing field in Tübingen and developed to one of the largest Geosciences faculties in Europe with over 1500 Students and 24 active professorships as well as several tens of post-doctoral researchers and technical staff. Some selected subjects include Geodynamics, Mineralogy, Petrology, Isotope Geochemistry, Geophysics ^& Geomagnetism, Sedimentology, Structural Geology, Micropalaeontology, Biogeology, Geoecology, Environmental Mineralogy, Geomicrobiology Hydrogeology, Geoinformatics and Computational Geosciences, Soil Sciences, Geomorphology and Palaeoclimatology.
