Pyramidising of QTL in order to improve the Barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) tolerance of barley and genetic analysis of tolerance to Wheat dwarf virus (WDV) - Subproject 2
Project
Project code: 2814100206
Contract period: 01.12.2006
- 28.02.2010
Budget: 142,337 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
The project aims at marker based pyramiding of QTL for Barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) tolerance in order to enhance the level of tolerance to this aphid transmitted virus. Besides this, a number of Hordeum bulbosum introgession lines will be tested for tolerance against BYDV and Wheat dwarf virus (WDV). In order to get information on the genetics of tolerance against WDV a DH-line population derived from a cross of ´Post´, which also turned out to be tolerant against WDV, to a susceptible cultivar will be analysed. Improving the level of tolerance to insect transmitted viruses will reduce sprayings of insecticides thereby contributing to a sustainable, environment and consumer friendly plant production.
