Participation in the International Ring Test "Bioaccumulation: Soil test using terrestrial oligochaetes"
Project
Project code: JKI-ÖPV-08-036
Contract period: 01.01.2006
- 30.11.2006
Purpose of research: Applied research
A ring test initiated by the Federal Environmental Agency (UBA) is organised by the ECT Ecotoxicology GmbH. The aim of the ring test is to develop a standardisable method for the determination of the bioaccumulation of chemicals by oligochaetes from the soil. A new OECD guideline for testing of chemicals should be established. As part of this ring test we will determine the accumulation of 14C-hexachlorobentene by the earthworm Eisenia fetida in artificial soil (OECD)and in a natural soil. During a three-week uptake phase we will measure the 14C content in the test organisms and in the soil repeatedly. These parameters will be used for the calculation of the bioaccumulation factor (BAF). In addition we will determine the concentration of 14C-hexachlorobentene in the test organisms at the end of a three-week elimination phase.
