Purpose of research: Applied research
Within the framework of an agreement between the German and Dutch Ministries of Agriculture the BAZ Gene Bank is responsible for the joint Beta and Cichorium collection and the Centre for Genetic Resources, The Netherlands (CGN) for the joint collection of seed propagated potato species. The work encompasses: collection, documentation, characterisation and provision of material as well as the promotion of European and international cooperation in the field of research and utilisation of genetic resources of the three genera. The cooperation serves to avoid costly duplication of work through task-sharing. The project aims at a more efficient use of the core budget through task-sharing.
