Purpose of research: Applied research
Goal: To assess the current best knowledge and state of the art of the analytical approaches related to: DLDD, their causes and driving forces, their effects on land productivity incl. changes in the provision of terrestrial ecosystem services, the social and economic costs of these effects, the costs of enhancing land productivity and (re-) establishing ecosystem services; and to recommend a methodology for an integrated evaluation of the afore-mentioned costs based on DLDD assessments at global, regional and local levels; to describe the nature of partnerships required for regional and global assessments and to recommend potential partners.
Purpose: This study will serve as a reference document for the integrated global assessment study which will be articulated around regional assessments to be delivered for the 2nd Scientific Conference of UNCCD in 2012.
