Project code: MRI-LBV-08-128-1030 Analysen kaltes Plasma
Contract period: 01.03.2018 - 30.09.2018
Purpose of research: Experimental development

As part of the collaborative project "Plasma-based decontamination of dry plant products for increased food safety (3Plas)" which is coordinated by the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy, Max Rubner-Institute is working on a subproject. The aim is to investigate safety of consumer health of plasma-treated plant food products such as grains with regards to cytotoxicity, mutagenicity and genotoxicity. The results of this subproject are intended to create a sufficient database that can be used for the interpretation of possible health hazards or for optimal process control of a pilot plant scale. The expertise of the Max Rubner-Institute in the application of modern, non-thermal processing methods (e. g. UV-treatment) forms the basis of this work. Scientific monitoring of the experimental series is therefore required. This should ensure data interpretation from the in vitro test systems with regard to safety aspects. Additionally, all results will be summarized and published in cooperation in form of a scientific publication.
