Position-specific 15N signatures and delta-18O of N2O from denitrification in aquatic systems and hydromorphic soils as indicators of process dynamics
Project
Project code: vTI-AK-08
Contract period: 01.07.2007
- 01.10.2010
Purpose of research: Basic research
The control of N2O emission from soils and water bodies is still pooly understood. Position-specific 15N signatures are a new tool in soil science which is thought to be useful in this area. The aim of our project is to investigate the control of isotopic signatures of N2O from denitrification in aquatic and hydromorphic systems. This is done by in situ and laboratory studies with aquifers, aquatic sediments and soils. Results will be used to evaluate the potential of isotopic signatures of N2O to identify N2O turnover in denitrifying environments.
