Seaweeds and seaweed-ingredients to reduce emissions from pasture-based sheep, cattle and dairy cows (SEASOLUTIONS)
Project
Project code: FLI-ITE-08-Br-0072
Contract period: 01.12.2019
- 28.02.2023
Budget: 1,969,000 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: Methan, emission, greenhouse gas
In the project the animal experiments will involve dairy cows and methane emissions will be quantified on an individual basis. The experiment will include the main factors of concentrate proportion, seaweed supplementation and the influence of these on methane emissions will be quantified in lactating dairy cows. Additional performance, animal health variables connected with rumen fermentation and energy metabolism will be investigated. 56 lactating dairy cows will be fed and methane quantified using a 2X2 factorial experimental design where concentrate proportion in the diet and seaweed supplementation will be taken into account. A Greenfeed methane measurement station will be used. Blood and rumen fluids will be taken for analysis.
