Detection of soil heterogeneity in breeding plots and field experiments
Project
Project code: 0315530C
Contract period: 01.10.2009
- 31.03.2014
Budget: 469,271 Euro
Purpose of research: Basic research
This project aims to detect small scale soil heterogeneity in plot and field experimentation in a simplified way by using non-contacting passive and active sensor systems. This information should contribute to optimized experimentation and further allow to analyze complex genotype-soil interactions.
The sensors used include mobile VIS-NIR sensors for the measurement of C, N and soil texture in the upper soil layer as well as geophysical sensors such as EM38 and EM38-MK2 for the estimation of soil texture in different depths (field wide measurements). This information is verified by laboratory NIRS (estimation of soil texture, C and N) and capacitance based soil moisture sensors (EnviroScan and Diviner). Primary focus is in breeding plots as well as in cultivated fields.
