Use of NIRS calibrations for evaluation of fruit and vegetable populations with respect to quality.

Purpose of research: Applied research
For practical use of quantitative NIR spectroscopy (near infrared) it is aimed to measure reflection spectra of fruit surfaces. By means of suitable calibration models (BAZ-1223) plant substances as well as firmness parameters will be determined. Based on reference data, which are obtained simultaneously by classical analysis methods, the mean values for individual cultivars are estimated. The project is a follow-up of BAZ-1223. The calibration models, which have been established, will be tested for the species carrot, tomato, apple and strawberry with regard to various quality parameters. The special task of this study is to tranfer the rapid and easy-to-perform NIRS methods into practice.
The prediction quality of NIR spectroscopic measurements on carrot, tomato and apple is suitable for determination of differences in varieties. This concerns the determination of dry matter content in apple, tomato and carrot, the determination of firmness in apple and tomato, the determination of total carotin content in carrot and the determination of sugar acid ratio in apple. For strawberries the results were not sufficient.
