Melissa - Performance test for determination of performance parameters of inbreeding lines of stage 14 and development of further inbreeding stages on three different locations - Chemical Analysis via vibrational spectroscopy, liquid and gaschromatography
Project
Project code: JKI-ÖPV-08-1118
Contract period: 01.08.2014
- 31.12.2015
Purpose of research: Applied research
Bredding lines of lemon balm, generated within the FNR-funded joint research project 'Melissa - Performance test for determination of performance parameters of inbreeding lines of stage 14 and development of further inbreeding stages on three different locations' (Dr. F. Marthe, ZG) will be analyzed concerning the content of rosmarinic acid and essential oil as well as potential allergenes like the terpenes Neral or Geranial, as requiered according to the European Pharmacopeia. The determination of the terpenoids will be performed conventionally by GC-FID analysis, whereas the content of rosmarinic acid will be predicted by IR spectroscopy. Therefore, HPLC as referrence analysis is needed for creating reliable calibration models. During the whole project a small set of test samples will be analyzed via HPLC to produce either data for the IR calibration or to insure a continous validation an improvement of the IR prediction.
