The inflammatory milieu in human skin affected by chemical contact allergens
Project
Project code: BfR-CPS-08-1322-663
Contract period: 01.01.2016
- 31.12.2018
Purpose of research: Basic research
The sensitizing potential of chemicals and drugs belongs to the most difficult to predict adverse toxicological reactions. Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a widespread skin disease currently affecting 8.1% of the German population (life time prevalence, data collection 2008-2011). Research is mainly focused on animal models and in vitro studies. Here, we have the opportunity to analyze patient skin samples from acute ACD lesions and healthy skin of the same patient. Employing state of the art technologies like next generation sequencing (NGS) and immunohistochemistry, we will assess the ACD-specific immune cell infiltrate (T cell receptor (TCR) repertoire) in situ.
