Description
The South Asia Institute (SAI) at Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg was founded in 1962 as an interdisciplinary center for research and teaching on South Asia (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka). Its special task is to convey intercultural competence, by - for the first time in Germany and so far unique - interrelating social and economic science, history and culture sciences. The SAI maintains numerous contacts with research centres in Europe, Asia and America and maintains a variety of research projects in those regions, mainly in cooperation with local scientists.
