Norway rats with genetic based anticoagulant resistance are widespread. Nothing is known about the spread of resistance genes by migration of individuals, although a successful resistance management is only possible with rodent control at migrants’ origin. The study is conducted within the resistance area in Westphalia, Germany, to identify relationships of rat infestations within and between farms. The focus will be onn resistance occurrence and relationship of individuals within packs, within farms and between farms. First simple spatial analysis will consider the role of structures at farms, environment and farming practice on relationship patterns. We will investigate both, frequency of the resistance gene by ArmsPCR and genetic distance using length polymorphisms of nine sequence repeat markers to determine spatial distribution of Rattus norvegicus. The results are necessary for developing resistance management strategies of the Expert Commitee for Rodenticide Resistance of the JKI and worldwide.
