Association genetic studies for combined heat and drought tolerance in barley
Project
Project code: JKI-RS-08-1129
Contract period: 01.09.2011
- 30.09.2014
Budget: 998,013 Euro
Purpose of research: Basic research
The project aims at getting detailed information on the molecular basis of heat and drought tolerance in barley on the DNA., RNA-, and metabolom level. Based on these results molecular markers will be developed facilitating a rapid transfer of the knowledge generated into barley breeding. To achieve this, field and growth chamber experiments will be conducted as well as molecular analyses. Based on these results a custom made array (IlluminaBeadExpress) will be designed facilitating marker based selection for drought tolerance. The project contributes to a deeper knowledge on tolerance to heat and drought stress therreby leading to an enhanced adaptation of barley to the changes in growing conditions due to global warming.
