Development of viral vector vaccines/marker vaccines
Project
Project code: 2813100406
Contract period: 01.10.2006
- 30.09.2009
Budget: 833,914 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
For the control of infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT) and 'Newcastle disease' (ND) of poultry, attenuated ILT or ND live virus vaccines which are suitable for mass application via aerosol or drinking water have been used successfully for a long time. By the insertion of the haemagglutinin genes of highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIV) from previous outbreaks of fowl plague into the vaccine viruses, chickens were reliably protected against experimental infections with the corresponding HPAIV isolates. This principle will be applied for the new H5N1 isolates. The efficency of the new vaccine candiates will be analysed. In cooperation with other scientific institutions (e.g. PEI) and companies recently developed marker vaccines against HPAIV will be analysed as well. Currently, only at the FLI infection studies with HPAIV H5N1 Asia can be carried out in relevant target species (chicken, duck, goose, turkey)
