Project code: TI-FO-08-3.25
Contract period: 01.01.2012 - 31.08.2014
Purpose of research: Applied research

Strategies for forest and timber based value added are implemented in regions. In regard to changing societal framework conditions as well as to the economic, climate and environmental policy objectives competition for the utilization of forest area and raw wood are substantiating on a regional level. However, no comparing evaluation of forest use options, such as e.g. “material utilisation”, “energetic utilisation” and “nature protection/recreation” are available so far. The project is integrated into the joint research project “Strengthening bioenergy-regions (BEST)”. The objective of work package SÖB 2 “Regional analysis of value added” is a synoptic regional economic evaluation of the competing options of value added for forest areas and raw wood, based on case study areas. By this means, the integration and interaction of forest area and raw wood options of value added into the regional economy, as well as the implementability of political aims, shall be identified for stakeholders and decision makers from economy, administration and politics. Furthermore, information and recommendations for a regional economic improvement of the resource allocations of forest area and raw wood are provided as a basis for decision-making in regard to a sustainable regional management.
