Forest management and timber use optimisation with the goal of sustainably increasing the carbon sink capacity of forests and timber - CO-2-OPT
Project
Project code: 28W-B-4-030-01/02/03/04
Contract period: 01.10.2014
- 30.09.2017
Budget: 851,863 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
The purpose of the project is to clearly demonstrate the options available for taking action in this segment and the ways in which these are being implemented in a particular region by way of an example. Relevant social groups are involved in order to identify conflict potential and develop strategies to facilitate solutions in line with the objectives. The type of forest ownership that is also the most common on a national level, namely the private forest and, in particular, the small private forest, has previously been ignored because of its low economic sig-nificance. There has so far been no strategy based on consistent criteria to implement the forest/timber option of a region up to and including the creation of incentive schemes. The project intends to demonstrate the conditions that need to be created to allow such a strategy to be transferred to other regions.
