Development of New Spectroscopic Methods for the Rapid Prediction of the Technological Quality of Various Onion Cultivars
Project
Project code: JKI-ÖPV-08-1310
Contract period: 01.12.2014
- 31.05.2017
Purpose of research: Applied research
This project aims to develop new and efficient rapid methods aiming to characterize the influence of the genetic background and different cultivation conditions on various quality aspects of selected onion cultivars. In this context special focus will be laid on those technological and quality parameters which are relevant for optimal process conditions. Hence, the following workpackages are planned to perform: Identifying metabolic profiles and individual biomarkers in onion tissue related to the genetic background and different cultivation conditions. Evaluating differences between sown and planted onions (of the same cultivar) regarding technological and sensory quality. Rapid classification of selected onion cultivars (providing a broader harvest window) with special regard to technology and flavor. As a result of the project a rapid method is provided which allows predicting the quality of onion bulbs in less than 1 h.
