Determination of chlorinated paraffins in food contact materials based on PCV and others
Project
Project code: BFR-CPS-08-60-0102-02.P602
Contract period: 01.07.2021
- 30.06.2022
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) are alkane mixtures with varying chlorine content, legally classified as short-chain (SCCPs), medium-chain (MCCPs) and long-chain (LCCPs) products. They are produced annually on a million-ton scale and are used, among other things, as plasticizers, flame retardants, high-pressure lubricants and greasing agents. Due to their substance properties, their use in rubber and flexible PVC is obvious. Since contact with foodstuffs cannot be ruled out, this project will examine whether products containing CP are used in the food sector. If this is the case, it would have to be examined in the future whether contact with food can lead to CPs being transferred from the contact materials to food and what role this plays for the consumer.
