Division of Horticultural Economics and working group on agricultural informatics
Institution
Section overview
Description
Our division deals with questions of management of horticultural enterprises. These include all activities producing horticultural goods or services. Specific to this sector, enterprises are commonly small and family-based, production is characterised by a high degree of dependence on biological rules, and companies act in an intenational market. Furthermore, producers are ncerasingly required to consider demands for sustainable production in order to maintain competitiveness. Within the working group on agricultural informatics, central topics include the structuring, processing and analysis of topic-related information, mainly economically determined data. Knowledge in this area is vital since integrating electronic information systems and data networks is becoming crucial within the management of agricultural production and service structures.
