Project code: EIP-Agri-NRW-2017-TVV01
Contract period: 01.01.2017 - 31.12.2019
Budget: 734,994 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: animal husbandry, marketing/supply chain

In the project 'Roiporq - Alternative Pigs' a special pig crossing, which is suitable for conventional and ecological fattening, will be tested for special quality labelling. The meat of this intersection should be sensitively distinguishable for consumers and thus be clearly distinguishable from conventionally produced pork. The use of antibiotics as well as zootechnical interventions are not required for rearing and fattening. This includes that male animals are not castrated and teeth are not grinded. By differentiating process and product parameters in the field of pig production, new market opportunities will be opened. This project is not about the supply of small niche markets, but about the question of whether a changed quality of meat can be accepted by society.
