Development and selection of early ripening sweet cherries with high fruit quality
Project
Project code: JKI-ZGO-08-4169
Contract period: 01.09.2013
- 31.08.2016
Purpose of research: Applied research
The aim of the project is the development of early ripening sweet cherries (2 - 4 cherry week) with good fruit characteristics better like cultivar 'Burlat'. During the project period genotypes from existing seedling populations and from breeding clones will be selected. Those should combine the characteristics of early maturity with good fruit quality. In addition, the maternal influence of the ripening time will be studied. Molecular markers are used to describe the new sweet cherry genotypes. New breeding populations will be created to increase the basis for selection of early ripening genotypes.
