Collaborative project: Evaluation of potato genetic resources by using innovative methods to analyse ingredients and quality traits of tubers – Subproject 3
Project
Project code: 2814301507
Contract period: 15.04.2008
- 30.04.2010
Budget: 49,113 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Evaluation of potato genetic resources is fundamental for its increasing utilization in plant breeding. Within the project, a variable set of more than 200 potato genotypes including genetic resources was screened with improved and innovative analysis methods for yield and quality determining parameters relevant for potato breeding, as well as for the molecular chemical diversity of organic substances. Large variability for total content of phenolic compounds, for calcium, potassium and antioxidative potential based on dry matter, as well as for flesh colour and acidity of the tubers could be determined, especially with regard to the first three parameters. The scientific technical results present a synthesis of a potato tuber specific mass spectrometrical database of the analysed material and of a decision-support-system (DSS) for steering the analysis process. Plant material for the implementation of new breeding aims in potato could be determined.
