Urban Green 2021 - qualification test of an extended assortment of tree species under changing climate conditions (Urban Green 2021)
Project
Project code: KL/17/03
Contract period: 01.07.2017
- 31.05.2018
Budget: 30,800 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: climate change, urban climate-resilient tree species, urban tree testing, regional tree species recommendation lists, tree species diversification
Continuation of the climate change project "Urban Green 2021" of the Bavarian State Institute of Horticulture and Viticulture, where 29 promising tree species are tested since 2009 and 2015 respectively in three different Bavarian cities with different climatic conditions in search of stress tolerant and climate proof urban trees to expand the presently scarce repertoire of urban tree species. The 650 trees are checked twice a year on frost and drought damage, crown vitality, pests and diseases. Shoot and girth development are measured each autumn. Additionally, analyses of the tree pit substrate and leaves are taken in midsummer to assess the nutrient status of some of the tree species on trial.
