Collaborative project: Use of deciduous woods and woods from short rotation plantations as peat substitutes for the development of plant substrates, Grow-Bags and Grow Blocks (Grow-Bags)

Project

Project code: 22027718
Contract period: 01.03.2019 - 28.02.2022
Budget: 342,556 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: peat substitute, renewable ressources

Exploitation plan Hardwood substrate fibres are to serve as an alternative to peat substrates, value-added material recycling of KUP wood, to create new jobs, secure the supply of raw materials in gardening and landscaping as well as vegetable cultivation. From the point of view of the forestry sector: Value-adding use of ALn timber. Use of the project results in the own enterprise (Kleeschulte Erden GmbH & Co. KG), market introduction by publication of the results on conferences, in (technical) journals, in the form of publicly accessible project reports. In the medium term: Positive external effects through conservation of natural peat deposits, contribution to sustainable bio-economy, substitution of finite raw materials see above. Especially for our earthwork: Scientific and/or technical prospects of success of the utilization, creation of know-how as well as scientific and economic connectivity with a view to exploitation. Product diversification: The basis will be created for further research to optimize the targeted products, which will then initiate further research projects through new cooperation between university and industry.
