ATB Department 3 Post Harvest Technology
Institution
Section overview
Description
After the harvest the quality of agricultural products must be secured. Losses must be minimised and an increase in value is to be achieved by optimised treatment processes. The added value for rural areas is to be improved in this way. Process optimisation is carried out increasingly with the aid of mathematical modelling methods, e.g. numerical solution methods, neural networks such as have been develop at the ATB for the post-harvest sector. The globalisation of information flows (Internet) and progress in the technology of gaining and processing information open up possibilities for agricultural research and agricultural engineering to collect, process, manage and distribute data and information locally and globally. The Department is currently working on appropriate software systems.
As regards provision and use of energy in rural areas, the Department is also pursuing the goal of farm units with their own energy systems on the basis of alternative sources of energy and renewable raw materials.
