Integration of biomass to optimize the energy system in the energy region of Hümmling with an integrated, multi sectoral approach (BISON)
Project
Project code: 22025617
Contract period: 01.08.2019
- 31.07.2021
Budget: 110,338 Euro
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
Keywords: digitalization, bio energy, renewable ressources
Target is the conception and demonstration of a fully regenerative energy system for an energy independent region with special consideration of the integration of biomass. This should be shown with an integrated, multi sectoral approach in the energy region of Hümmling (Emsland, Lower Saxony, Germany). With the target of an energy system with almost 100 % renewable energy in all sectors and beginning of the actual state optimal transformation paths should be developed. Because the energy region of Hümmling is already supplied with almost 100 % of renewable electricity it may be assumed that this target state may be reached in the next 10 to 20 years. For the study the middle and long term developments are regarded in two time steps (2025 and 2040). Beginning with an integrated system analysis the implementation of a virtual power plant in the project region is developed by connecting wind parks, biogas plants and biomass power plants, several storage technologies and an operation of biogas plants which is oriented on the flexibilisation and system integration.
