Collaborative project: Comparison of innovative methods effectively reducing insect burden in stables, Subproject 3
Project
Project code: 2817204513
Contract period: 01.04.2016
- 31.03.2019
Budget: 19,007 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Between 2016 and 2019 the project ERIS monitored in cow stables Diptera (flies and midges) relevant in veterinary medicine and their reduction by innovative methods. Prof. Dr. E. Kiel, University Oldenburg¸ focussed on the flight into and out of the stables and the emergence of these Diptera from typical stable substrates, revealing a low number of midges but many flies. In a cooparation with the company A Westermann improvement of the cleaning of slit floors reduced the number of remaining fly larvae. Prof. Dr. G.A. Schaub, Ruhr-University Bochum, monitored the effects of new formulations of insecticied, provided by the company PROFUMA showing mainly optimal reductions. The biological control guided by the company Biofa resulted in variable results. The mega-eclektor-trap, a tight coverage of dungheaps with some exits captured all insects. A tight black coverage alone killed all insects. A bucket trap containing yeast as attractant was very effective.
