This programme not only aims at achieving scientific progress and the exchange of knowledge, but also to build sustainable partnerships and to relevantly contribute to 'capacity development'. This funding instrument has the following main objectives: 1) The development of approaches for improved and sustainable food security. 2) The exploration of solutions along the value chain. 3) The involvement of relevant partners according to the research topic and the needs in the target country or target region. Here, the research consortium should also provide interfaces to partners in the field of development, to governmental organisations and NGOs. 4) Approaches and findings from research projects have to be integrated into regional development processes, e.g. through cooperation with regional networks and research fora. 5) Besides research, also tasks in the area of capacity development and information and knowledge management will be supported. 6) Ths instrument aims at contributing towards the realisation of activities in terms of the MDG’s and the post -2015 development agenda.
