Collaborative project: Diagnosis in the field: Big-Data-based determination of causes for satellite image derived site-specific variations (BigPicture) - subproject 1
Project
Project code: 2815711715
Contract period: 01.09.2016
- 28.02.2019
Budget: 126,501 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
In the BigPicture project, Spatial Business Integration GmbH and rasdaman GmbH bundled their expertise in satellite-image-based products for agriculture and big data raster services. BASF SE provided access to farmers and consultants and took part in the customer-oriented solution development. The goal of the BMEL-funded project from September 1, 2016 to August 31, 2019 was to diagnose growth variations in agricultural fields recorded in satellite images and thus to close up the process chain from symptom detection to recommendations on field treatments to farmers. The prototype of an app was developed that provides satellite image maps of soil variations in different field zones for the targeted application of fertilizers, plant protection products, and seeds. Through the development of multifactoral models and with the help of the rasdaman database technology, disease risk and damage due to frost and drought could be diagnosed in seconds on thousands of fields.
