Cultivation of mixed cultures with oil plants to improve land productivity in organic agriculture - nutrient uptake, weed suppression, pest infestation, and product quality
Project
Project code: 2803OE113
Contract period: 01.03.2004
- 30.06.2007
Budget: 295,448 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
It should not be raised so far in the attempt to quantify exact sizes of the mixed cultivation of oil crops with other grain crops in organic farming. These are in addition to the income for the first time nutrient uptake, shading performance, weed occurrence, disease and pest infestation determined and mixed cropping systems of various product qualities systematically with plant oil. Existing practice experiences are included. The cultivation process is to be the project made available to a broader audience and discussed scientifically. At four locations, two-year field trials are being created for comparison of mixed and pure cultures. The plots are scored on pests, pest infestation and weed, pest infestation is qualified in more detail with laboratory methods. The shading power of the cultivated varieties is measured. Grain yields, withdrawals of nutrients N, P, K, Mg and S as well as yield and quality parameters are determined separately for each species. The information transfer is ensured by field surveys, publications and a scientific symposium. The already existing procedures on farms of mixed farming with vegetable oil can be determined through targeted surveys. The aim of the classification of the sustainability and profitability of different cropping systems with mixed vegetable oil in organic farming.
