Collaborative project: Development of special equipment for efficient handling and breeding of juvenile pikeperch – Subproject 1
Project
Project code: 2817303210
Contract period: 01.01.2012
- 31.12.2014
Budget: 78,342 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) is a local freshwater fish species, which shows, justified by its awareness in public and excellent product quality, a high potential as new candidate for aquaculture in Germany. Certainly suitable devices for cost-efficient raising and assortment of high quantities of juveniles are missing up to date. So the demand for dry-feed adapted pikeperch stocking material, as basic requirement for commercial rearing in intensive systems, can´t be satisfied. Aim of this project is the development and improvement of self-cleaning rearing tanks and assortment devices for larvae and juveniles of pikeperch.
In consultation with the Institute for Inland Fisheries (IfB), the industrial partner Kunststoff-Spranger GmbH will develop rearing devices, first in semi-industrial, later in industrial scale. These tanks will use an automatic, magnet-driven scraper for cleaning. Furthermore, a device for automatic assortment of fingerlings working with phototactic and current amenities is integrated. These new developed rearing and assortment devices will be tested and evaluated under practical conditions as well as compared to the conventional technologies at the Institute for Inland Fisheries.
