Optimized cattle fertility management

Project

Project code: 2813503508
Contract period: 01.10.2009 - 30.09.2012
Budget: 256,462 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

The development project refers to a new method for doing ultrasonic scanning of animals with an automatic transfer of data which can not be mistaken. This transfer means measured data of the conditioning parameters to a PC management system. The animal in the herd will be identified by an electronic RFID ear tag without being mistaken and be allocated to the measured parameter of the ultrasonic scanning. This data transfer of the animal id and conditioning parameters reduce enormously work and excludes the risk of mixing-up animal id with the relating conditioning parameters. We want to use a clear allocation, free of mistakes, for the conditioning parameters with the help of electronic identification with RFID ear tags. The purpose of this development is the up-grading of proposed ultrasonic scanners with a special software to allocate and analyse the above mentioned data as well as a device for the transfer of these data to a management-program. The use and further development of ultrasonic scanners in connection with suitable RFID ear tags for a clear and excluding mixing-up allocation of the parameters are the most important targets. The purpose is not to develop a maximum system engineering but a combination of portable simple units for use in agriculture. The farmer should achieve with relatively small complexity or investment a great benefit from the use of electronic identification and a clear allocation of the measured parameters. The different development steps will be: (i) the development of an ultrasonic scanner with a Blue-Tooth port, (ii) the up-grading of a handheld reader for reading electronic identification like ear tags etc., (iii) development of software for the clear allocation of measured parameters without mistakes. The advantage of this development is getting correct and reliable data for an optimum of herd management in agriculture animal farming.
