Description

The Institute for Environmental Sciences has been founded in 2004 and is still in a strong growing phase. It belongs to the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences and has the main responsibility for the Course of Studies in Environmental Sciences at the Landau Campus, which started in fall 2001 and includes at present about 250 students. The course covers a wide range of topics including natural sciences, social sciences, environmental economics and law with the five main focus areas Applied Ecology, Biodiversity & Sustainability, Geoecology, Ecotoxicology, and Social Economics & Environmental Management. The research focus is on Ecosystems and Anthropogenic Stressors. Within this framework, three main topics are currently addressed: * Ecotoxicology and Community Ecology * Nature Protection and Ecosystem Management * Landscape Development and Soil Conservation
