In 1927 a Horticulture Center was established on the bases of Sardar’s Garden Winery (Yerevan). The Center has 5 divisions with their subdivisions:

    Division of Horticulture     a/Grapevine cultivation, b/ Fruit growing,

    Division of Chemistry       a/ General chemistry,b/ Enological chemistry, c/ Chemistry technology, d/ Soil science,

    Division of   Entomology

    Division of   Bacteriology

    Division of   Fitopathology

 In 1930 the Horticulture Center was transformed into 2 separate scientific research centers – 1. Center of Viticulture and Wine Making, 2. Center of Horticulture. In 1943 the former was re-established as 'Scientific Research Institute of Viticulture and Wine Making' and the latter – as 'Scientific Research Institute of Horticulture' in 1949. Later, in 1956, these two scientific research centers were combined into one 'Armenian Scientific Research Institute of Viticulture, Fruit Growing and Wine Making'. In 1997 the Scientific Research Institute became 'Scientific Center of Viticulture, Fruit Growing and Wine Making' SCJSC and in 2004 - 'Scientific Center of Viticulture, Fruit Growing and Wine Making' NPO. At present it is a branch of ANAU foundation (since 2012).

The study of gene pools of grape cultivars, gathering of grape varieties, wine making, fruit growing and brandy production technology development, new grape varieties description, etc. - these are the common activities of the Scientific Center of Viticulture, Fruit Growing and Wine Making.

Before the dissolution of the Soviet Union there had been 13 Research Divisions together with their laboratories as well as 4 Experimental Bases in different climatic zones, 2 Footholds, 1 center and 1118 ha of land under the control of 'Armenian Scientific Research Institute of Viticulture, Fruit Growing and Wine Making'.
