The project 'Sustainable utilization of grassland in selected problem regions of Baden- Wuerttemberg' focuses on the future usability of disadvantaged grassland regions with high portions of habitat areas, meadows with scattered fruit trees and steep slopes and aims at the exploration, documentation, scientific evaluation and finally publication of innovative as well as existing production methods of sustainable utilization of grassland in practising farms. A second focus will be on the analysis of the farms regarding economic, ecologic and social characteristics. To achieve these goals, scientists of the university Hohenheim and the LAZBW Aulendorf and other partners cooperate with over 20 agricultural enterprises situated on the Swabian mountains and the Black Forest, which are equipped with appropriate farming areas and feature a highly success-oriented production method. The intense cooperation aims at further improving the utilization of the above-mentioned 'problem grasslands' in order to optimally connect agricultural interests and the requirements of the protection of nature, which is of paramount importance for many regions in Baden-Wuerttemberg
