In Baden-Württemberg, milk goat farming is becoming inreasingly important as a business alternative. Stock figures (Stat. Bundesamt 2014) and increasing demand for milk from dairies prove this development. At the same time, this relatively young production procedure faces major challenges that need to be tackeld. One urgent challenge that has been identified by practicioners and scientists alike concerns the development of a feeding system adapted to the requirements of horned goats. part of their characteristics behaviour includes causing each other injuries with their horns, especially during the process of feed-intake. This negatively affects animal welfare, animal health and performance in milk goat keeping. Partners from agricultural practice, industry, agricultural consulting, animal associations and science will jointly develop a completely new feeding station for horned goats, whih renders possible an animal friendly and economic feed supply. Such a feeding system is not yet available on the market. Thias woll promote modern dairy goat farming in Baden-Württemberg that is publicity accepted and meets high animal welfare standards.
