The aim of the project is to increase the efficiency of pastoral farms in Schleswig-Holstein by advances in pasture management. For this purpose, two innovations from Ireland (Rising Plate Meter, model 'Grasshopper', and Decision Support System 'PastureBaseIreland') are to be transferred to (North) German conditions with the support of Irish colleagues. The project transmits a functional base version and adapts it to regional conditions, such as the sward density factor and the German forage quality assessment system. The instrument is tested on farms with different grazing systems and further developed for regional conditions. The focus of the project is the creation, calibration, validation, introduction and application of a decision support system not previously available in Germany. In addition, the OG is developing a pasture app. as a communication tool for farmers.
