The project aims to develop bilateral research project ideas in order to expand the knowledge base for sustainable multifunctional forestry. The process of brainstorming to the preparation of project applications will be accompanied by academic theses and collective project workshops. Different experiences will be brought together to adapt existing solutions, apply research methods to new topics and / or develop completely new solutions and methods. The result of the project are project ideas, scripted by bilateral research teams, which lead to project proposals. The following main topics are addressed: • Presentation of current value chains of wood-based biomass for energy generation as well as potential and technical improvement of previous extraction and processing methods • Development of methods for reforestation of permanently protected areas and degraded areas • Ecological and economic upgrading of natural forest areas • Market analysis for non-wood products, development of regional value chains and product development • Development of management strategies for agroforestry • Capacity building for the tourist diversification for small farmer • Aspects of changes in the water balance and their socio-economic consequences • Analysis of the material flows of wood and wood-based products.
